Pulse Nightclub Shooting
On 12 June 2016 at 2:02AM EDT, the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Florida came under attack when 29-year-old Omar Marteen entered the gay night
club during the last call for drinks on the club's Latin Night and opened fire. 49 people were killed that night until Omar was shot by police in a standoff
that last 3 hours. Despite targeting a gay nightclub which was drawing a primarily Latino crowd, Omar Marteen's motives weren't homophobic
(hatred of homosexuals, people who love other people the same gender as them) but rather an echo to terror attacks that happened elsewhere,
making a country (in this case, the United States) feel a similar sense of grief felt in war torn countries.
The remains of Omar Marteen were buried in the Muslim Cemetery near Hialeah Gardens and there are plans to turn the site of the shooting in a memorial and museum sometime in the future.
