Diwali

Lasting for 5 days, Diwali is the festival of light in the Hindu religion. Despite it being a moveable (determined by the position of the moon) feast every year with it falling between October and November, it falls in early November in 2021. Sikhs and Jains also celebrate this predominantly Hindu festival which celebrates Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth who would find her way into peoples' homes with help from the lights and lamps that are lit during Diwali and when in a person's house, Lakshmi would bring prosperity in the year to come. According to Hindu tradition, the deities (Gods) Rama and Sita returned to the city of Ayodya after 14 years following a victorious battle against the evil king Ravana. Diwali also celebrates the day Mother Goddess Durga destroyed the demon Mahisha. The Sikhs celebrate Diwali (albeit as Bandi Chhorh Divas) to commemorate the release and return of Guru Hargobind from imprisonment. In Jainism, Diwali is also celebrated to commemorate the moment the religion's founder Lord Mahavira reached the state of Moksha (nirvana (free of all suffering) or eternal bliss). Diwali gets its name from the Sanskrit word deepavaili which means rows of lighted lamps. This festival is usually celebrated with lit lights and oil lamps in the houses and streets, visiting relatives, having feasts, fireworks and worshipping of the Lakshmi who is the bringer of blessing for the New Year.

On 6th April 2026, I tried to submit this to DeviantArt after I noticed it was missing only to get an error message that stated that the fact card failed to be uploaded due to "unacceptable content". There's nothing unacceptable about it but at least we have the Playground of Nations website to present it on, especially since I am the moderator of it as well as the administrator. Can't get this one taken down if the owner has made the guidelines for this site herself, it would be like a lawyer suing themselves.
