Armistice Day (11 Nov 1918)
Armistice Day (or Veterans Day) marks the end of the First World War that lasted from 1914 until 1918. It celebrates the signing of the armistice between the Allied Powers and the Central Powers which ended all military operations and hostilities on all fronts and theatres of World War 1. Initally, it was to last 36 days but it was extended several days and when the Treaty of Versailles was signed the following year was when a formal peace agreement came into force. Every year, especially in Britain, poppy wreaths are layed at war memorials across the country and a moment of silence is held at 11AM, the time the Armistace came into effect.
