Russian Blue Cats Origin
Originally called Archangel Cats, the Russian Blue came off of ships from Russia's Archangel Island (also known as Arkhangelsk). There were favoured by royals, especially Russian czars who preferred them. Perhaps because of their quiet, gentle nature. This particular cat has a thick coat suitable for colder climates like Russia. Eventually, the Russian Blue was then shipped to many parts of Europe with its first appearance on the world stage in 1875 at a cat exhibit in London's Crystal Palace and in 1890, a British cat fancier named Mrs. Carew-Cox became to import the breed. Although the Second World War saw the deaths of many Russian Blues, American breeders began to develop their own lines, saving the breed. Since the 1960s, they have become a favourite at cat shows, in homes and even on screen like the 2001 film Cats & Dogs.
