How China became communist

Following the 1911 revolution that saw the fall of the monarchy in China, a republic was formed. In the early 1920s, the Communist Party of China was founded and grew in the lead up to the Long march led by Mao Zedong. Following the Second Sino-Japanese War, a civil war broke out\resulting in the Communism side winning and as a result the opposition moved to the island of Taiwan while the People's Republic of China was established on 1 October 1949 within mainland China's borders.
