Finnish Traffic Fines
In Finland, traffic fines aren't fixed like the rest of the world. Instead they are based on the driver's income and the severity of the offence. There are multiple cases of wealthy people being charged tens, hundreds of thousands. and millions of euros in traffic fines. So if a poor person gets a ticket, the fine price is low but if they are rich, the price is pretty high. It works like this. First there is an estimate of a Finn's money amount in a day which is then divided by two. The answer from this calculation is considered a reasonable amount of spending money to deprive the offender of. The severity of the crime is then analysed for how many days the offender must go without the money they will lose as that's how the system works in Finland. If you went about 15 mph over the speed limit, you get a multiplier of 12 days and if you went 25MPH over the limit then that carries a 22-day multiplier.
The maximum multiplier in Finland is 120 days. The fine is taken as a constant proportion of income whether a Finn makes €80,000 a year or €800,000.
