History of International Women's Day
International Women's Day is celebratoed on 8th March every year.
It is meant to be a celebration of womanhood in all aspects and feminist values globally.
The first National Women's Day was celebrated in 1909.
The date for International Women's Day is set at 8th Marach to commemorate and celebrate votes for women
in Russia in 1917. Initially, it was only celebrated in socialist countries.
It was only adopted for the International event in 1967.
The UN adopted the event in 1975 and this was formalised by the UN General Assembly in 1977.
The theme for 2021 is "Women in Leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 World".
