During the American Civil War, the US State of Georgia (Where Cartoon Network’s headquarters are located in Atlanta) was part of the pro-slavery Confederate States of America. Speaking of Atlanta, on 15 November 1864 the city was burned almost entirely to the ground by Union forces led by General William Tecumseh Sherman. They did this to make sure that the Confederacy would be incapable of recovering resources and thus, before the fires were lit the businesses were destroyed. Atlanta was forced to surrender in September 1964 before being burnt down in November that same year which saw 3,000 buildings consisting of schools, homes, hospitals and buildings being destroyed. The Burning of Atlanta was a boost for Union morale. Atlanta grew significantly during the Reconstruction era of American history which came after the Civil War and General Sherman’s March to the Sea.
