History of Cannibis/ History of 420
Cannabis (also known as Marijuana) originates in east Asia and was first used as a food source in Japan and in hempen fabrics found in Korea that date back as early as 3000BCE.
Overtime, people travelling carried cannabis with them and brought to Africa and the Middle East. Cannabis helped with labour pain, nausea and gout.
It became problematic in the middle ages which saw restrictions on the plant being implemented with the biggest ban coming during the War on Drugs in Cold War era United States of America where it was marked a Schedule 1 Narcotic.
Oddly enough, cannabis were grown by the Founding Fathers of the US like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.
In 1972, the Dutch government decided to have cannabis sold in coffee shops as they declared it a less- dangerous drug. It was soon discovered to have beneficial effects when used for cancer patients as well as those with sexually transmitted diseases like AIDS.
Nowadays, many people with epilepsy fly to countries where it is legal to have cannabis to help reduce their seizures.
Many people on the internet commemorate cannabis on 20th April thanks to a group of San Rafael High School students who would smoke cannabis at 4:20PM ritually. Oddly enough, they have also tied Jamaican singer and pioneer to the Reggae genre Bob Marley into it even though his life didn't start or end on 20th April.
