2015 Nepalese Earthquake and Avalanche

On 25 April 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the mountainous South Asian country of Nepal, caused by the Indian Plate colliding with the Eurasian Plate. An earthquake like this creates a thrust fault where a break in the Earth's crust pushes older rocks above younger rocks.
It was the worst natural disaster to strike Nepal since the 1934 Bihar earthquake as it caused an avalanche (a mass of snow, the fastest form of mass movement) to descend from Mount Everest onto a campsite for hikers, killing a Google employee named Dan Fredinburg who was on the tallest mountain in the world mapping the area for a Google Earth like project.
