The Time Frank Sinatra tore up JFK's helipad

Singer and film star Frank Sinatra first became acquainted with the 35th President of the United States, John F. Kennedy through film star Peter Lawford. Sinatra helped Kennedy with his 1960 Presidential campaign but after being inaugurated in January 1961, John F Kennedy decided to cut ties with Sinatra on account of his mafia connections. In March 1962, Peter Lawford asked Sinatra to be Kennedy's host at his Palm Springs estate as the president was scheduled to fly to Southern California for Easter. As a result, Sinatra didn't hesitate to make the Palm Springs estate fit for a president by installing a flagpole for the presidential flag, cottages for the Secret Service and a helicopter pad.
Things would've been fine had it not been for John's brother Bobby Kennedy (who would share a similar deadly fate with his brother during his 1968 presidential campaign) finding out and decided that John would be better off with someone who didn't have organised crime connections like singer Bing Crosby (known for his song White Christmas). With that, Sinatra's preparations had gone to waste. Upon being informed of the change by Lawford, Sinatra who had a notoriously explosive temper grabbed a sledgehammer and destroyed the helipad. Although he would become a republican after this mishap, Frank Sinatra never had anything bad to say about Kennedy and when the news broke a year later in November that JFK had been assassinated, Sinatra quickly finished filming a scene in Robin and the 7 Hoods before returning home to Palm Springs to cry in his bedroom for 3 days.
