Tsar Peter 3 vs. a Rat
There was once a prince in 18th century Russia called Peter and he was quite the eccentric royal you will read about. Tsarevich (Prince) Peter was a drunken man child who was incompetent. He wanted to dress up as a general and play with his toy soldiers which would entail make believe battles and then one day, a new foe came along. A foe named rat. Yes, a rat came into the Russian palace Peter spent his youth in and had a feast with one of his toy soldiers in Peter's bedroom. By feast, we mean the rat nibbled the head off the wooden soldier! This not only upset the Tsarevich but also infuriated him so much that he had the rat put on trial. The poor rat was found guilty of high treason (disloyalty to his country and head of state) and was later hung on a makeshift gallows set. The execution scene was found by Peter's wife who had known a lot about her husband's foolish and reckless nature but let that slide. The missus didn't let one thing slide about her hubby and that was his extreme pro-Russian policy which made him unpopular and his lack of sobriety didn't help either. So after 6 months of being Tsar of Russia, the now Tsar Peter III was overthrown in a coup lead by his wife, Catherine! Yep, Catherine the Great's husband executed a rat over something that could've been avoided if he had tidied up afterwards!
This story even found its way in a Horrible Histories sketch in the 6th episode of the 4th series from 2012.
