The Birth of the Weimar Republic
Following the end of World War 1, not only were the wartime allies of Germany the Austrian-Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire carved up but the pressures of defeat lead to the Kaiser (German emperor) abdicating after losing the support of the German people and the German army which plunged Germany into chaos. That was different in the calm and centrally located town of Weimar where the new national assembly was set up. They wrote up the constitution there until law and order was restored to Berlin nearly a year later. The Weimar Republic was born!
