If you have ever heard the song "Don't Cry for me Argentina", you may be wondering what the song is about and who is the person telling Argentina not to cry for. The person that the song is being in sung in the point of view of is Eva Peron. Eva was once an Argentinian actress, acting in radio, films and plays but she is better known as first lady of Argentina and Juan Peron's famous wife. They met during at a fundraising gala following an earthquake in 1944 and they were married within a year. As first lady, Eva took over the ministries of Health and Labour, visited hospitals and orphanages and founded a political party comprised of female voters. She also played a role in legalising the ability for women to vote in Argentina. She devoted time to the poor and when she died of cancer, she was mourned dearly even when her preserved remains went astray for 16 years before being returned to Argentina.
