Watergate
Named after the Watergate Complex, Watergate was a scandal that ended the career of Richard Nixon, President of the United States. It all started when a group of Cubans were discovered burgling the Democratic Convention at the Watergate building. This was interesting enough but thanks to good journalism by 2 journalists from the Washington Post, Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, the trail led all the way to the president. The story was finally confirmed by an anonymous FBI source only known as "Deep Throat" and as a result, Nixon announced that he would resign on 8th August 1974 with the resignation being effective at noon on 9th August 1974 when he was threatened with impeachment (when a public figure is charged with misconduct in office before a competent tribunal).
