Oakland Fire 1991/ Why does California gets Wild fires?

In October 1991, a fire began in the Berkeley Hills where a grass fire was improperly extinguished and spread for 4 days over 1,520 acres (620 Ha). The event is called Oakland Fires because the Oakland section of the Berkeley hills run along the east side of Oakland, California. The fires destroyed many homes like 2,843 single family dwellings, 437 apartments and condominium units and 25 people died while 150 non-fatal injuries were reported. The fire was controlled by firefighters on 23 October 1991.
California is prone to wildfire due to the often hot, dry and windy conditions it faces from spring to late autumn which can cause wildfires ranging from moderate to devastating to occur. The drier the vegetation, more likely a fire can happen. Climate change also plays its part as well as people building their homes in rural burn areas.
One of those affected by the Oakland fires of 1991 was Will Wright who used his experience of rebuilding his life to create The Sims game franchise which began with the release of The Sims in 2000. That is why fires that can destroy homes happen in the games. A tribute to him can be found in the woodworking hobby on Sims Freeplay if one reaches level 5 in said hobby which allows them to unlock the Will Wright collectable of that hobby.
