Pickles the Collie

It was March 1966 and the Jules Rimet trophy was stolen from London’s Central Hall. This trophy was an older version of the FIFA World Cup trophy as the Jules Rimet trophy was to be rewarded to the winners of the 1966 World Cup so detectives throughout the United Kingdom were on high alert as were high-profile companies who were offering lots of deserving rewards for anyone who found it. A replica was even commissioned in case the original was considered irretrievable. One day, a mixed breed collie named Pickles and his owner David Corbett were out walking when Pickles picked up a peculiar scent around a bush. When David looked, it was the Jules Rimet trophy wrapped up in newspaper! This was interesting as Pickles wasn’t a police dog, let alone a dog with special training for such a case like this. Though considering that Pickles was a collie and collies are sheepdogs, Pickles would’ve had the natural sheepdog instinct in him to find and round up sheep if he heard sheep bleating nearby. So how was the dog awarded? He was given a silver medal and appeared in a film called The Spy with a Cold Nose. Of course, if anyone has watched a World Cup or Euros match in the past couple of years will know who won the 1966 match. Yep, it was England.
