Waco Siege

From 28 February 1993 until 19 April 1993, the Mount Carmel Centre near Waco, Texas came under siege by the U.S. Federal government alongside Texas state law enforcement and the US military. This happened because Mount Carmel Centre was the headquarters for the Branch Davidians lead by David Koresh. The Branch Davidians are a religious sect (sub group of a religion) and their leader at the time was seen as the Messiah. The group had been violating federal firearms regulations. It was followed by a gun battle which saw six Davidians and four ATF (US Bureau of Alcohol. Tobacco and Firearms) being killed. The siege lasted 51 days which was played out on the world headlining press and TV screens. Eventually, the siege came to a dramatic end on 19 April 1993 when the compound was consumed by fires burning 75 people, 25 of which were children. David Koresh was shot in the head by his right-hand man who when took his own life in a similar manner. Alas, 2 years later there would be trouble brewing in Oklahoma.
