ANZAC Day

Every 25 April, Australia and New Zealand holds a memorial day for those who died in all wars and conflicts the two nations got involved in. Yet, why the 25th April? Well, on 25th April 1915, soldiers from Australia teamed up with New Zealand soldiers to the Gallipoli peninsula in Turkey as part of the allied mission to capture Constantinople (what is now Istanbul) as it was the capital of the Ottoman Empire which was one of Germany's major allies in the First World War. The long military battle was only meant to be a quick military campaign and saw massive causalities on both sides but the bravery and strength of both Australia and New Zealand forces left a profound legacy in history.
